Child Neglect - Another Case Ripped From the Headlines - Florida
This is another case of child neglect and abuse coming out of the state of Florida. This case mirrors the Ohio case in regard to children living in extreme poverty. The home was in deplorable conditions and children were forced to sleep on a dirty mattress filled with flies. There were mold, water damage and holes in the floors. There were feces and urine all over the home. Four children were removed from the home along with dogs and kittens.
There was a DCF worker involved in this case and I have to wonder for how long before calling the police. There were three other children in the home. The mother Jodie Cannon, 26, also had two other biological children. There was another child on the premises, but they do not state whom she belongs too. Was DCF called because of her newborn? There are still many questions that need to be answered. The mother refused medical attention for her baby which prompted the call to the police.
This child could have died without intervention, and the case worker made the right call by contacting local authorities.
Now it is time to look at the bigger picture. How many people knew about these children and the condition of the home? Why did nobody step up before now?
I will continue to share these stories for education and awareness. All across this country there are children living in horrendous conditions, and it is up to all of us to do our part. PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Four people have been arrested in connection with the neglect of a 6-month-old baby, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said.
On July 7, detectives responded to a call after a caseworker from the Department of Children and Families wanted to have a baby evaluated due to weight loss and severe diaper rash.
