The Flawed System Surrounding Our Youth - We Need To Make Serious Changes

Our system is in a shambles right now. There are far too many holes, and we are losing countless children because of it. I am sharing a few stories that have been in the news as examples. There are stories of children who should have never been sent to be with their parents, and abusive foster homes that were overlooked. Children are being preyed upon, abused and neglected on both sides of the fence, and we need to find balance to correct these massive problems. “The Flaws”!!!

Where do we begin? We begin by stepping up, being a voice and fight for change. Be the person who is willing to ask the questions, look out for the children and push the envelope. That is the only way that we can get this enormous ball rolling.

Be aware of your surroundings and what is happening in your community. Take notice to the news feed and see how you can help. This is a HUGE task, but one that we need to be addressing.

OUR KIDS DESERVE BETTER - They deserve a safe and loving environment to grow up in.

WE NEED TO BREAK BARRIERS!

It all starts with YOU.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

We have fallen into a nightmarish cycle in Massachusetts.

It’s a cycle of child-death incidents followed by investigations, reports, audits, apologies, promises, and reforms—and then the cycle repeats yet again. Meanwhile, for many years, Friends of Children has been publicly asking for specific outcome measures that demonstrate the intended and actual impacts of child welfare reforms in Massachusetts, for children and for families.

There were no answers.

For years, we have been imploring our leaders to step outside the cycle of tragedy and follow up on the endless investigations, news reports, and journalistic pieces that document this litany of systemic failure.

The silence that has followed our requests has been deafening…. Friends of Children - Massachusetts Failing Our Kids | Friends of Children

**This story stood out to me in regard to the system being flawed. CT DCF office received a report of a teacher inappropriately touching a six-year-old child. The child was tickled on her belly, and she stated the teacher hurt her and touched her on more than one occasion. DCF decided NOT to pursue the claims. The teacher went back to work where he touched more children. A second report was filed and then DCF decided to investigate. The BIG question here is, why not investigate the first time, and the second question is - WHY did the school bring him back? Many holes in the system.
